FHE Athletic Booster Club meeting minutes February 14, 2018 Sports represented: Cindi Rasmussen Baseball Christopher Heum Lacrosse Ben Sherman Athletic Director/Football Jeff Ackerman Rowing Jill Yeomans FHNE Ski Laura Kaminski Hockey FHNE Rita Tomaszewski Cross Country Kathy Pavey Boys’ Lacrosse Aaran Bush Softball Sherrie Sands Mens’ Swim/Dive Dennis Neat Mens’ Swim/Dive Terry Sands Mens’ Swim/Dive Danny Robertson Girls’ Basketball Wendy Winn Field Hockey The meeting started off by recognizing Student Athletes of the Month: September: Raelyn Baker - Girls’ Swimming Gabe Becker - Football Marlena Gray - Sideline Cheer October: Moran Mikula - Sideline Cheer Andy Schilling - Football Phoebe Bronkema - Girls’ Swimming November: Jane Sypneiwski - Sideline Cheer Gracie Sleeman - Girls’ Diving January: Gabi Sleeman - Competitive Cheer Adam Sands - Boys’ Swimming Hailey Engvall - Girls’ Basketball Joey VanBoxtel - Boys’s Basketball Nathan Nickelson - Hockey Congratulations to all who were honored! Dance Marathon: • the goal is for each athlete to raise at least $50 • Please LIKE the Facebook page for the Dance Marathon • this is more community inclusive than the Soaring Celebration Ben Sherman stated that the recognition of Student Athlete of the Month is a great tradition that needs to continue. It honors student athletes that represent FHE well and have Hawk Pride. Mike VanBoxtel stressed the importance of the Athletic Booster Club and listed reasons: • it’s important to raise funds to help the athletes • recently purchased a new scoreboard • developed a light show for the starting players of the basketball team • working on building batting cages for baseball and softball • there will be a new touchscreen tv for FHE sports; you will also be able to view the FHE sports information online • we have great individual donors • it’s a great way to support coaches who work tirelessly for very little pay • it’s nice to make the coaches’ jobs more enjoyable Mike also stated that he figures it takes around $70,000j per year to fund FHE Athletics. The Special Olympics Basketball Tournament will take place on March 10th. All 3 gyms will be used. The concession stand will be open. Chris Thomas runs the tournament. Allison Martin stated that she feels we need someone to take over management of the FHE sports website. Updating the website is supposed to be quite easy. As of now, not all of the sports at FHE have updated information on the website. The next Athletic Booster Club meeting is March 14th at 7:00 p.m. Wendy Winn FHE Athletic Booster Club secretary
