On March 29, the Hawks resumed its rivalry with Cedar Springs HS.  Formerly league foes, Cedar held the edge in the series 4-3-1.

Cedar was first to tally a goal in this game.  19 minutes in, a corner kick played into the Hawks' penalty area found an attacker's head for a 1-0 lead.

The Hawks maintained composure and rallied to even the game just 3 minutes later, as Freshman Megan Hollingsworth played a sublime through ball to the feet of Jessie Fatum who cracked a shot into the left side of the net.

Both teams played evenly through the remainder of the first half, but it again was Cedar Springs who got on the board first to start the second half.  In the 48th minute, a Cedar attacker hit a shot from 18 that was saved by goalkeeper Erin Pupel, but a crashing attacker buried a shot off the rebound.

Just two minutes later, a Cedar defender struck a long ball over the Hawks' defense on to the feet of a streaking forward, who finished her 1v1 opportunity to put Cedar Springs up 3-1.

The Hawks attacked repeatedly, but found themselves stonewalled by the Cedar goalkeeper.  Senior midfielder Layne Vandenberg had a fantastic game and nearly put the Hawks back in the game on a shot that appeared to have beaten the goalkeeper, but the Cedar keeper made a sublime save as she tipped the ball over the bar.

Final statistics:  Shots at Goal:  FHE 13, Cedar 10.  Corner Kicks:  Cedar 4, FHE 3.  Fouls:  Cedar 7, FHE 5.  Offside:  Cedar 2, FHE 2.

The Hawks fall to 0-2 on the young season and following Spring Break, will meet up with perennial power East Kentwood.
