The Hawks travelled to Caledonia on Wednesday for an OK Gold matchup with the #7-ranked team in Division 1.

FHE got off to a quick start as Senior Layne Vandenberg scored on a direct free kick from 25 yards out just 7:42 into the match.

The Lady Scots equalized in the 23rd minute as they found space behind the Hawks defense for a 1v1 chance with the goalkeeper.

Caledonia converted again in the 46th minute to take a 2-1 lead.

The Hawks kept their composure and just 5 minutes later, Vandenberg made a run up the gut and struck a shot from 30 yards that found its way into the net.

From there, Freshman goalkeeper Erin Pupel took over, making save after dramatic save.  During the 20 minutes following Vandenberg's goal, Pupel made 3 point blank saves:  she parried one wide, touched one upper 90 shot over the bar, and made a brilliant kick save on a deflection as she dove the other direction.

With 7:30 left in the match, Junior Morgan Behm put the Hawks up for good as she scored on a strike from distance after a beautiful play by Jaclyn Goble.

The thrilling 3-2 victory puts the Hawks within striking distance of the OK Gold Regular Season Championship.  The overall record moves to 7-5-0, 5-1-0 in the OK Gold.

The Hawks travel to West Catholic for a non-conference game on Friday.  JV kicks off at 5pm, Varsity to follow.

The JV Hawks fell to Caledonia in the opener by a score of 4-0.
