The FHE Soccer Teams revived an old rivalry on Friday evening with a visit to Calvin Christian.

The two programs were perennial contenders and rivals in the OK Rainbow conference for three years, compiling an even 4-4-0 record in the previous matchups.

The Squires held the upper hand early, holding a 10-1 advantage in shots at goal going into the halftime break.  But the Hawks defense, backed by goalkeeper Erin Pupel, refused to break and the score remained 0-0 after the first 40 minutes.

Just 4:48 into the second half, sophomore Jessie Fatum ran onto a through ball behind the Calvin Christian defense.  The goalkeeper made a brilliant save, but Fatum struck the ensuing rebound into the net for her 12th goal of the season.

The Hawks defended in numbers and fought to hang on to the lead for the remaining 35 minutes.  Being the team's third game in three days, fatigue began to set in, but the Hawks used mental toughness and intestinal fortitude to pull out the shutout win over the #7 team in MHSAA Division 3.

The JV Hawks fell to Calvin Christian by a score of 3-1 in the opener.

The Hawks travel to Caledonia on Monday for the 2nd Round of the OK Gold Tournament.  JV kicks off at 5pm and Varsity will follow.  The game will be played at Duncan Lake Middle School.
