Girls Varsity Volleyball vs. Ferris State Tournament

Game Date
Sep 25, 2010

Saturday, the varsity girls' volleyball team journeyied north to the Ferris State University campus to battle against unfamiliar teams throughout Michigan.

Our first opponent hailed from Anchor Bay, Michigan, located near the base of the thumb!  The Eastern Hawks looked a little 'bus legged' during the first set; starting sluggish and looking worn out.  Anchor Bay returned many of our attack attempts in a way that forced our defense and offense to handle out-of-system plays.  The set ended with a win at 25-11.

During the second set the accuracy of the score was questioned, but the refs and scorebook keeper were quickly saved by Mary's excellence!!  Once the confusion died down our defensive continued to play sloppy and looked dead on their feet.  However, around point 11 we picked up the speed of the game...not quite to full speed.  Tori Viveen delivered some great serves and backed it up with skilled defense to give the Hawks a 6 point run, bringing us to 22.  Mary then sent another great serve over the net which was complimented by Rachel pounding a set to the ground before Anchor Bay knew it was coming.  The game was finished with a win 25-18.

Game Stats:

Kills - Emma Mattew (5)...Rachel Glupker (4), Lauren Mammina (4), Annie Cawood (4),                Aces - Holly Myer (2) Digs - Lauren Mammina (8) Assists - Kasey Blank (14)

Lakeview

Eastern arrived with energy to the match against Lakeview, but their raw skills came a little late to the match.  Eastern's lead was minimial at 13-8, but disappointing because 6 of Lakeview's 8 points were handed to them on a silver plater as a gift from "Our Errors", which the Wildcats readily accepted.   Following this string of errors, Eastern's raw skill showed up to the game to hammer every set at the Wildcats scrappy, but ill-equipped defense.  Eastern began manipulating the momentum of the game in their complete favor, forcing the Wildcats to make errors that placed the win on our record board.

Game Stats:

Kills - Annie Cawood (7), Aces - Holly Myer (6), Digs - Allie Mitchell (11), Lauren Mammina (9), Blocks - Emma Matthew (1), Rachel Glupker (1), Annie Cawood (1), Assists - Holly Myer (21)
